SCHMACK ist eine Jazzgruppe für Leute, die normalerweise nicht auf Jazz stehen. Der (vorwiegend) instrumentale Indie-Pop der Linzer Band hüllt sich in ein unberechenbares Jazzgewand, um mal windschief abzudriften, mal perfekte Harmonien rauszuhauen. SCHMACKs in eigenen Worten Fake Pop / Fake Jazz macht es sich dabei zwischen den Stühlen sehr gemütlich, ist Elevator Music im verschwitzten Jazzkellerclub, ist schwer verdaulicher Easy Listening, hat weder Angst vor vertrackten Rhythmusexperimenten noch vor repetitiv-minimalistischer Pop-Keule und nimmt manchmal auch Anleihen bei elektronischer Musik. Nur eines ist bei SCHMACK sicher: Alle Songs werden als Band live im Studio eingespielt. Andreas Holler (Saxophon), Philipp Wohofsky (Keyboards), Tobias Wöhrer (E-Bass) und Patrick Pillichshammer (Schlagzeug) feiern an und mit ihren Instrumenten die grenzenlose Ausgelassenheit des Spaßes an Musik, von der bis jetzt noch niemand gewusst hat, dass er sie unbedingt braucht.

Austrians SCHMACK disguise as a jazz quartet to deliver their (predominantly) instrumental indie pop in a manner that’s at times unpredictably meandering, at others perfectly melodic. Their self-proclaimed fake pop / fake jazz feels very comfortable not committing to styles or conventions, is elevator music in a sweat-soaked jazz club, is hard-to-swallow easy listening, experiments with rhythm and timing but is not afraid to go straight and repetitive either. Jazz, pop and even electronic music all contribute to the unique blend that is SCHMACK. There is one irrevocable rule though: Every song will be recorded live as a band. Andreas Holler (sax), Philipp Wohofsky (keys), Tobias Wöhrer (bass) and Patrick Pillichshammer (drums) celebrate making music that is spontaneous yet sophisticated, simple yet elaborate.
